IMPORTANT - Over the Summer 2009 I intend migrating the lists on this site to my new site below. I will let you know which are moving and when. The reason for this is that it will be much easier to keep them updated there.

• I hold a City of York 'Certificate of Registration' (Issued by the Trading Standards & Regulatory Services)

•     I started trading as S Jones Stamps in 1986, but by 1991 I had specialised in the postcard side of things.

•     In addition to doing stands at smaller local & society fairs, I am also a veteran of some of the major postcard shows, having stood at York Card Expo and Nottingham Evening Collectors Fairs most years since 1991.

•     Together with my husband, I have given illustrated postcard talks on General Postcard Collecting: the Crystal Palace; the Festival of Britain; Disasters; Bygone East Lancs.

•     A recent addition to my repertoire is eBay trading and I am currently at Silver Seller standard.

What We Do:

• We sell many thousands of postcards to all sorts of people, from new collectors to serious researchers looking for suitable images to illustrate books, articles or research papers.

• Prices range from pence to £'s depending on the rarity and quality of the card

• We specialise in views of Great Britain, separated into two distinct categories:

            a) Photographic views (+ those which have originated from a photo but have been printed for mass production)

            b) Artist drawn views. Certain artists painted views specifically for publication on postcards (see Oilettes (Tucks), Salmon and Valentines_Art among others)

•  We also sell postcard images which we have accumulated over the years. These are medium to high resolution scans which you can use as you wish - for research, to illustrate a book or family history, creating your own greetings cards or calendars. (This has become more popular recently as the price of original cards continues to rise).

• We sell postcards of all periods (1900-1980s)

• We sell a smaller range of subject cards - animals, birds, children... etc

• News from Up North - my monthly blog of life as a postcard dealer in a small Northern town, with news and views on postcards and other collectables from local fairs and societies (Apparently some people bookmark my website just for this!)

• Unknown - many great postcards were never given a caption or else were given a place name of which there are many in the UK. Can you identify them? There are also unknowns on my new website

How We Do It

• With limitations on website space, at present, we can only display a small number of postcard images at once, so we rely on you to e-mail and tell us what you want to see. We can then e-mail low resolution images, for you to choose from, free of charge.

• Let us know the name of the town you want, what type of card (photo/printed/colour/artist drawn). Also the age e.g. pre-1920, pre-1950, pre-1970, all periods. Condition - e.g. very good only, postally used, small faults acceptable, any. Tell us whether you want to buy the actual card (if in stock) or an image. We will then e-mail lower resolution scans of anything suitable with appropriate prices (obviously less for an image than the original card). If you choose to buy any of those shown you can pay by cheque/ Postal Order or by Paypal, and your order will be dispatched as soon as we receive payment. If you want many high resolution scans I can copy them to a CD/DVD and post for a surcharge of £1.

• If you are a collector and would want to see anything new in stock of your area, please e-mail us every couple of months (its not that we forget customers, but we've found difficulty in e-mailing people back in the past because anti-virus software often rejects e-mails from us. If you e-mail us our e-mail address will be added to your address book)

• Some of the larger postcard publishers numbered their cards, and since collectors of these cards keep lists of numbers, we have taken the same approach by producing lists of cards we have in stock. (Note that in order to eventually produce full listings, I don't delete the listing when sold but turn it 'red' so that its still available for reference.) New additions are suffixed with the current month/year (e.g. 1106 = November 2006) - this makes it easier to spot new cards (using a Search) without having to go through the full listings every month. Condition is also shown - A+ being as new down to D = space filler. Most collectors would find anything of B or above standard quite acceptable.
